Welcome to the Lightbox

This toolkit provides information on the technical specifications and equipment available in the Lightbox Gallery.

The Lightbox Gallery is an open ended experimental space in the Harvard Art Museums dedicated to projects and artworks that use new media and emerging technologies to explore the museums' collection. It is located in room number 5000 and is the only public gallery on the the fifth floor of the museums. It opened on November 16, 2014.

About the room and technology

There is a wall of nine screens on the east side of the Lightbox Gallery.

• Overall, it is 142.50 inches wide and 80.25 inches tall. (362cm x 204cm)
• Each individual screen is 47.50 inches wide and 26.75 inches tall. (120.65cm x 68.00cm)
• Combined, the screens have a resolution of 5760 by 3240 pixels. The full resolution including bezels is 5808 by 3272 pixels.
• How the information is displayed across the screens can be changed using the Creston Panel.
• Video is processed by two Vista Spyder X20s, and controlled with a Crestron Pro-3.
• The screens are connected to a 4U rackmount workstation running Windows 10.
  • Processor: Intel Core™ i5­-7640X 4-Core 4.0-4.2GHz Turbo
  • Graphics: Matrox C900, 4GB GDDR5, 9x Mini HDMI
  • Storage: Samsung 256GB 860 PRO SDD, 2x
  • Memory: HyperX Fury DDR4 2666MHz 16GB Kit

There are two fixed projectors hanging above the nine screens, facing the wall of shades on the west side of the Lightbox Gallery.

• The projection area is 240.0 inches wide and 67.5 inches tall. (610.0cm x 171.5cm)
• The projection area covers the center four shades on the west wall of the gallery.
• Each projector creates an image at the resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
• Combined, the projectors have a resolution of 3840 x 1080 pixels.
• The projectors are connected to a 2U rackmount workstation running Windows 7.
  • Processor: Intel Core™ i7-4770S 4-Core 3.1-3.9GHz + Intel HD GPU 4600
  • Graphics: AMD FirePro W4100 2GB, 4x Mini Display Ports
  • Storage: Samsung 256GB 850 PRO SDD, 2x
  • Memory: DDR3 1600MHz 16GB

Both workstations are controlled from a wireless keyboard in the Lightbox. USB ports are available for uploading project files.
